Welcome to Baleal
A family surf camp on the beach — not behind it.
Baleal Surf Camp is a family-run business in Peniche, Portugal. We're the only surf camp in Peniche located directly on the beach, in one of Europe's most consistent and surfer-friendly spots.
Established in 1993, we were Portugal's first surf camp. By focusing on the people and the ocean around us, we've grown into one of the best-loved surf schools on Europe's Atlantic coast. The vibe is laid-back, the crowd is young and international, and the waves are a few steps from your door.

The Surfcamp Experience
One week, everything sorted.
Arrive with a bag and a swimsuit. The rest — coaching, a board, a bed and the trips around it — is already handled.

5 days of coaching
Monday to Friday, two 1.5-hour sessions a day, with a maximum of five surfers per instructor.

Video analysis
We film your sessions and go through them together, so progress is something you can actually see.

Accommodation
Seven nights in a shared hostel dorm or a private apartment, both a short walk from the water.

Board & wetsuit
Quality equipment for your level is part of the week — including Firewire performance boards on the beach.

Airport transfer
Pick-up and drop-off between Lisbon and the camp, about 90 minutes up the coast.

Days off, sorted
A trip to the old town of Óbidos, a surfboard-factory visit and a skate session on your rest days.
Check-in is Saturday or Sunday. Travel insurance for surfing is included in every camp week.

Peniche & Baleal
Where the surf school opens onto the sand.
Peniche sits in the centre of Portugal's west coast, about 90 km north of Lisbon. Baleal — once a whaling island — is now one of the most diverse and consistent surfing areas in the country, with a sheltered bay for beginners and open beach breaks for the rest.
Our surf station sits right at Praia do Baleal, on the spot known as Cantinho da Baía. Steps from the classes: Bar do Bruno, our own bar on the beach, for the part of the day that isn't surfing.

Not here for a full week? The surf station runs lessons for every level and rents quality equipment, just steps from the sand — for singles, families, children and teens alike.
As one of the first surf schools to open in Peniche and Portugal, the goal has stayed the same: teach safe surfing with proper gear, in classes that keep moving and keep it fun.
